Can I run this cable outdoors from a transformer to a building without conduit?
Yes, with conditions. The black PVC jacket is sunlight resistant (UV-stabilized) and rated for wet locations, so it can be used outdoors in exposed cable trays or on racks. However, local codes may require conduit where physical damage is possible. For direct burial, this cable is not rated – use a direct-burial rated cable or install in conduit.
How does XHHW-2 insulation help in real-world damp or chemical-prone environments?
Yes, a grounding conductor is included as standard (bare copper). For wet, corrosive, or outdoor runs, we strongly recommend upgrading to an insulated green grounding conductor – it prevents long-term corrosion of the ground path, which is a common hidden failure in feeders that run through parking garages, rooftop trays, or chemical areas.
Does this cable include an equipment grounding conductor, and should I choose insulated or bare?
Yes. The black PVC jacket is sunlight resistant (UV-stabilized) and rated for wet locations. Just ensure proper supports, weatherproof terminations, and local code acceptance. Not rated for direct burial – that requires a different cable.
Why choose 1/0 AWG instead of 1 AWG or 2 AWG for my feeder?
1/0 AWG is rated for approximately 150–170 amps at 90°C (depending on termination). It bridges the gap between 1 AWG (~130A) and 2/0 AWG (~190A).
