14/2 NM-B cable is made with annealed copper on each conductor, making it more flexible and easier to install. To ensure electrical safety and durability, each copper wire is insulated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which can withstand temperatures up to 90°C (194°F). This PVC insulation helps prevent short circuits and protects the conductors from potential damage. In addition, a protective nylon coating is applied to the insulation to increase abrasion resistance and allow it to pass more smoothly through wall cavities and conduits.
Application
14/2 NM-B cable contains two 14 AWG copper conductors and a bare copper ground wire, with a rated voltage of 600V and is suitable for dry environments at 90°C. Compared with larger cables such as 12/2 or 10/2, 14/2 NM-B has a slightly lower current carrying capacity (usually 15 amps), but is more efficient and economical in light-load circuits.
In terms of specific applications, 14/2 cable is very suitable for indoor low-power circuits, such as ordinary lighting circuits, wall lamps, chandeliers, smoke detectors, and some low-power socket circuits in residential buildings. Due to its smaller size and greater flexibility, it is easier to thread, bend and fix during construction, especially suitable for wiring in small spaces. In addition, its cost is relatively low.

Certification
NM-B cable is UL certified. The cable has undergone authoritative and rigorous evaluation and testing in terms of design, material selection, manufacturing process and final performance. The cable must pass a number of key tests, such as insulation withstand voltage test, flame retardant performance test, temperature tolerance assessment, mechanical strength test, etc., to verify that it can withstand various electrical and physical stresses in actual use. These tests ensure that the cable will not cause safety hazards due to current overload, short circuit or mechanical wear during installation and use. UL certification is not only an important guarantee for the quality of wire products, but also a basic prerequisite for its legal sale and wide application in the North American market. For consumers and electrical contractors, certified cables provide reliable quality standards to ensure that the cables have excellent electrical performance, safety and durability in long-term operation.

FAQ
Q: What is NM-B 14/2 wire used for?
Q: NM-B wire in conduit ?
Q: NM-B Wire VS THHN
Construction: NM-B (Non-Metallic Sheathed Cable) consists of insulated copper conductors enclosed in a plastic sheath. The sheath typically includes a layer of PVC insulation and a nylon outer jacket.
Application: The wire is designed for use in residential and light commercial indoor applications, where it is installed in walls, ceilings, and floors. It is intended for use in dry locations and is not meant to be exposed to moisture or mechanical damage.
2. THHN Wire
Construction: THHN (Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated) wire consists of insulated conductors, typically copper, with a thermoplastic coating that is resistant to heat, oil, and chemicals. The insulation is usually made of PVC, with a nylon jacket.
Application: THHN wire is designed for use in conduit and for environments where additional protection is needed. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications where it is protected by conduit or other coverings.
