THHW Cable

THHW cables use 100% soft annealed copper conductors that meet ASTM B172 standards and contain no aluminum, ensuring stable and reliable conductivity. The conductor is a 30 AWG ultra-fine multi-strand twisted structure (Class K), which has excellent flexibility and is particularly suitable for scenarios that require frequent bending or dynamic use. The cable insulation uses high dielectric strength extruded PVC material, which not only has good mechanical strength but also has excellent oil, heat, acid, and moisture resistance. The temperature rating of THHW cables is -40°F to 221°F (-40°C to 105°C), and they can operate stably in extreme environments.

Application

THHW cables are widely used in fixed wiring systems in industrial, commercial, and residential areas, and are particularly suitable for complex environments that require resistance to high temperatures, oils, acids, and moisture. Its excellent flexibility makes it very suitable for wire connections in power distribution systems, internal wiring in electrical control cabinets, lighting systems, and power lines for electric equipment. Due to its rated temperature of up to 105°C (in a dry environment), it is also suitable for high-temperature operating equipment such as motors, transformers, and large machinery. In addition, THHW cables are often used in factory automation, production line control systems, and highly corrosive environments such as metallurgy and chemical industry to ensure the long-term and stable operation of electrical systems.

THHN cables use thermoplastic PVC insulation and nylon sheaths to improve wear resistance and mechanical protection; the rated temperature can reach 90°C in dry environments, and some can reach 105°C; their use restrictions need to be considered more carefully in applications with high humidity.
THHW cables use PVC insulation, but are designed for heat resistance and waterproofing. They have stronger waterproof and chemical corrosion resistance and are suitable for use outdoors or in pipelines. They are rated at 105°C and emphasize stable performance in humid environments.

Certification

THHW cables are UL certified and meet strict safety requirements in terms of conductor structure, electrical performance, insulation strength and flame retardancy. At the same time, THHW cables are also CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified, comply with Canadian electrical codes, and are suitable for installation and application in the local Canadian market. These certifications indicate that the products not only meet the application specifications in the US National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), but also meet the requirements for laying in a variety of wet or dry environments.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between XHHW and THHW?

A: Although both XHHW and THHW cables are used for building wiring, there are obvious differences in materials and performance. THHW cables use PVC thermoplastic insulation, have good flexibility, and are rated at 90°C in dry environments and 75°C in wet environments, suitable for indoor wiring or general industrial control applications. XHHW cables use cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) thermosetting insulation, which has better heat resistance, moisture resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance. The rated temperature is 90°C in both dry and wet environments, suitable for outdoor, high temperature, or harsh environments.

Q: What is the temperature rating of a type THHW conductor in a wet location?

A: The temperature rating of a Type THHW conductor in a wet location is 75°C (167°F).
