What does 2C+E mean on non-migratory cable?
2C+E means two current-carrying insulated conductors plus an earth conductor in the cable construction. When comparing suppliers, do not judge 2C+E non-migratory TPS cable only by price or purple colour. Ask for the ordered-size datasheet, cable marking, applicable certificate references and packing details. This gives contractors and distributors a clearer basis for technical approval and repeat purchasing.
Why do electricians call it "polystyrene cable"?
The nickname comes from one of the main reasons buyers choose non-migratory TPS: avoiding the plasticiser-migration problem associated with ordinary PVC cable in direct contact with polystyrene. For this type of project, polystyrene cable should be selected from a documented construction rather than by sheath colour alone.
