3 AWG MC Cable Construction & Features
The 3 AWG PVC Jacketed Metal Clad Cable is engineered for heavy-duty power transmission in commercial and industrial environments. Its interlocked steel armor provides outstanding mechanical protection against impact and crushing, while the outer PVC jacket adds resistance to moisture, sunlight, oil, and corrosive materials. Inside the cable, the conductors are made of high-quality THHN/THWN-2 copper, ensuring excellent conductivity and thermal performance up to 90°C in both dry and wet locations. A full-sized insulated grounding conductor is also included for safety. This construction makes the cable ideal for feeders, branch circuits, and outdoor installations where ruggedness and reliability are critical.

The steel armor is made of galvanized steel, which provides basic rust resistance. The additional PVC jacket significantly improves overall corrosion protection, making the cable suitable for wet, chemical-exposed, or outdoor environments where the armor would otherwise be vulnerable.
Can this cable be installed in cable trays or direct burial applications?
Yes, the PVC jacket provides additional protection for cable tray installations, especially in outdoor or damp environments. For direct burial, the interlocked armor plus PVC jacket offers good resistance to soil moisture and mechanical stress, but local codes should be consulted. A direct burial–rated variant with a heavier jacket may also be available upon request.
What is the maximum operating temperature for this cable?
The 3 AWG PVC Jacketed MC Cable is rated for 90°C in both dry and wet locations (based on the THHN/THWN-2 conductor insulation). The PVC jacket and steel armor are suitable for the same temperature range.
