1 AWG XHHW/XHHW-2 PVC Jacketed MC Cable for Industrial and Building Power
The 1 AWG PVC Jacketed Metal-Clad Cable is a high-performance, 600V rated cable designed for demanding power distribution in industrial, commercial, and building applications. It features XHHW or XHHW-2 thermoset cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, providing excellent moisture, heat, and chemical resistance. For XHHW-2 insulation, the temperature rating is 90°C in both dry and wet locations; for XHHW insulation, the rating is 90°C dry / 75°C wet. The cable is constructed with an interlocked aluminum armor and an outer black PVC jacket, offering superior mechanical protection and resistance to UV, oil, and corrosive environments. It is fully certified under UL1569 (Metal-Clad Cable Standard) and also complies with UL83 for insulated wires. Common applications include building wiring, equipment connection, industrial installation, and indoor power distribution, especially where a robust, flexible, and jacketed metal-clad cable is required for long-term reliability in both dry and damp locations.

Why would I need a 1 AWG cable instead of a smaller gauge?
1 AWG is for feeders in the 100–150 amp range – common for large HVAC units, industrial machinery, sub-panels, or long runs where voltage drop matters. Smaller gauges like 4 AWG or 2 AWG would overheat under the same continuous load.
What's the real advantage of XHHW-2 over THHN for this cable?
XHHW-2 is rated 90°C in both dry and wet locations – THHN drops to 75°C when wet. In damp industrial plants or outdoor conduits, XHHW-2 maintains full ampacity and resists oil, chemicals, and heat better than THHN.
Can I run this cable outdoors on a rooftop or between buildings?
Yes. The black PVC jacket is sunlight resistant (UV-stabilized) and rated for wet locations. Just ensure proper supports, weatherproof terminations, and local code acceptance. Not rated for direct burial – that requires a different cable.
Does this cable come with an equipment grounding conductor?
Yes. Standard is a bare copper grounding conductor. For wet or corrosive environments, we offer an insulated green grounding conductor to prevent long-term corrosion of the ground path – highly recommended for outdoor or damp runs.
