Yes, it is available with ground – a bare or insulated copper grounding conductor is included inside the armor, sized per NEC 250.122. This simplifies grounding and eliminates the need to pull a separate ground wire.
What is the ampacity of the 400kcmil copper conductors?
Based on NEC Table 310.16 (75°C column for wet locations), 400kcmil copper has an ampacity of approximately 335A. In dry, 90°C rated applications, the ampacity can be higher (about 380A), but always consider terminal temperature limitations and derating factors.
Is this cable suitable for outdoor exposed runs, like on a rooftop or between buildings?
Absolutely. The PVC jacket is UV-resistant and rated for outdoor exposure. The THHN/THWN-2 insulation handles rain, snow, and high humidity. The metal armor resists physical damage, making it a popular choice for feeders in solar farms, parking lots, and industrial yards.
How do I terminate this cable?
Use UL-listed MC cable fittings (connectors) designed for armored cable with an outer PVC jacket. The fitting must clamp securely onto the armor and maintain the grounding path. For the 400kcmil conductor, use compression lugs or bolted connectors rated for the conductor size and 90°C insulation.
