Stranded Thermoset Power Wiring for Larger Equipment Loads Switchgear and Panel Distribution

4 AWG RHH cable is commonly considered for protected feeder applications where a larger copper conductor is required for industrial equipment rooms, switchgear areas and commercial power distribution. GERITEL WIRE manufactures 4 AWG copper RHH wire with stranded conductors and thermoset insulation for 90°C service in dry locations. Its conductor size provides higher current-carrying potential than smaller gauges, but final ampacity must follow the applicable code, ambient conditions and termination ratings. UL44 4 AWG power wire can be supplied with different voltage markings, custom printing, reel lengths, color identification and project packaging for contractors, panel builders and distributors.

Application and Description

GERITEL WIRE's USE-2 600 Volts or RHH/RHW-2 1000 Volts power cables are suited for use in wet and dry areas, conduits, ducts, troughs, direct burial, aerial supported by a messenger, and where superior electrical properties are desired. These cables are capable of operating continuously at the conductor temperature not in excess of 90°C for normal operation in wet and dry locations, 130°C for emergency overload, and 250°C for short circuit conditions. Rated for 1000 lb/ft maximum sidewall pressure.

FAQ

Why is RHH described as dry-location wire?

The RHH designation by itself is intended for dry-location service. If wet-location or underground capability is required, the product normally needs additional designations such as RHW-2 or USE-2. GERITEL WIRE markets RHH dry location wire according to this distinction to help buyers avoid mixing different ratings.

Does RHH wire automatically have a wet-location rating?

No. RHH by itself should not be treated as a wet-location designation. A cable marked with additional ratings may have broader installation permissions, but those must be verified on the actual product. When purchasing UL44 RHH cable, buyers should match the printed designations to the intended environment.

Is RHH wire automatically approved for direct burial?

No. The RHH designation alone does not mean direct-burial approval. Underground or direct-burial applications usually require additional ratings and installation conditions. GERITEL WIRE recommends using RHH power wire only within the environments permitted by its actual markings and project specification.

Does UL44 mean the wire is thermoset insulated?

UL44 is the standard category for thermoset-insulated wires and cables. RHH is one designation within that family. GERITEL WIRE produces UL44 thermoset wire for fixed building and industrial applications where heat-resistant thermoset insulation is specified.
