Understanding the Thermal Rating and Ampacity Limits

"Rated 90°C" sounds decisive, but it does not settle the allowable current of an installed circuit. A 90C RHW-2 copper cable can be designated for wet and dry service, yet the allowable current may still be constrained by connected terminals, ambient temperature and conductor grouping. Engineers should apply the locally adopted code rules rather than treating a laboratory rating as a universal operating current. This is especially important for dense electrical rooms where routing choices can alter thermal performance.

Does RHW-2 automatically qualify as battery cable?

No. RHW-2 copper wire is a conductor designation, not a blanket approval for every battery cable function. Flexible or high-temperature battery applications may require another product type.

Can RHW-2 be used at a solar farm?

RHW-2 copper cable may serve eligible fixed power distribution circuits in a solar project. Exposed PV module wiring may require a separate PV Wire listing.

Can RHW-2 replace UL4703 PV Wire?

Not unless the exact product also holds the needed PV designation and satisfies the installation conditions. Generic RHW-2 power wire should not be advertised as PV Wire.

Is RHW-2 used in data centers?

Some data-center electrical rooms use appropriately rated RHW-2 copper feeder cables for power distribution. This does not make the cable suitable for server cords or IT equipment internals.
