UL44 6 AWG XHHW2 Copper Electrical Wire

Per NEC Table 310.15(B)(16), 6 AWG XHHW-2 copper wire (90°C insulation rating) has a base allowable ampacity of 75 amps when installed with 3 current-carrying conductors in a raceway at 30°C ambient temperature. Actual operating ampacity must be adjusted with derating factors based on the number of parallel conductors, actual ambient temperature and installation conditions. We recommend confirming final sizing with your project electrical engineer.

6 AWG UL 44 XHHW-2 wire is widely used for medium-load power distribution in commercial and industrial projects. Common use cases include power supply for small-to-medium motors, pumps and HVAC equipment, sub-feeder circuits in distribution panels, lighting main branches, and service entrance sub-circuits for multi-unit residential buildings. Its 90°C wet & dry rating also makes it suitable for damp basement and underground conduit installations.

Standard XHHW wire is rated 90°C for dry locations and 75°C for wet locations, while the upgraded XHHW-2 maintains a full 90°C rating in both dry and damp environments, offering wider application flexibility. UL 44 is the official North American safety standard for thermoset-insulated wires. A genuine UL 44 listing means the cable passes third-party testing for material safety, electrical performance and dimensional compliance, is verifiable via the UL database, and ensures full NEC compliance for smooth project inspection.

Standard 6 AWG XHHW-2 building wire is designed for installation inside conduit, raceways and enclosed wiring systems, and can be used in damp locations within protected raceways. It does not carry a direct burial rating and is not approved for fully exposed outdoor use.
