Copper RHW/RHW-2 Wire
 

 

Copper RHW/RHW-2 wire is a high-performance cable with annealed (soft) copper conductors for excellent electrical conductivity. Its insulation material is cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), which has excellent heat and moisture resistance, and can operate in dry or humid environments with a maximum operating temperature of up to 90°C. The RHW-2 cable is rated for 600 volts.

 

 

Application

 

 

Copper RHW/RHW-2 wire conductor is a high-performance cable type widely used in power transmission and distribution scenarios that require high temperature, wet, or dry environments. According to the 2011 National Electrical Code (NEC), when used with conduit, the conductor temperature of RHW-2 conductor shall not exceed 90°C in wet or dry environment. This conductor has good heat and moisture resistance, which can ensure the stable operation of electrical systems in complex environments. In addition, the rated voltage of RHW-2 conductor is 600 volts, which is suitable for most medium and low voltage power transmission applications, such as building power supply systems, industrial power distribution, and outdoor laying projects.

RHW and RHW-2 cables are both insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and designed for use in wet or dry locations. However, RHW cable is rated for 75°C in wet locations and is primarily used in general-purpose wiring where moderate thermal performance is acceptable. RHW-2 cable is an upgraded version that offers a higher temperature rating of 90°C in both wet and dry environments.

RHW/RHW-2 cables have passed UL certification. The RHW cable is UL certified under number UL-US-2561144-0, while the RHW-2 cable holds certification number UL-US-2561143-0. These certifications are publicly verifiable in the UL official database, providing transparency and traceability.

Q: What does RHW mean?

A: RHW is Rubber Heat-resistant and Water-resistant. This type of insulation is also made of heat-resistant rubber but is specifically designed to be water-resistant, making it suitable for use in wet or underground locations.

Q: What is the difference between RHW-2 and use-2?

A:  RHW-2: Rubber heat and water resistant, designed for wet and dry locations, thicker insulation, and for more demanding environments. Better suited for industrial or heavy duty environments due to ability to handle wet and dry environments and higher temperature ratings

USE-2: Underground Service Entrance, designed for direct burial or service entrance applications, insulation is more focused on moisture and soil exposure, optimized for direct burial and harsh soil conditions, but less useful in other applications.

Q:  Can RHW-2 be directly buried?

A:  Yes, RHW-2 conductors can generally be directly buried in the ground, as long as they are marked for direct burial and meet the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC). The insulation of RHW-2 is designed to be waterproof and durable, making it suitable for underground installations, including direct burial applications.
