Is 2/0 AWG AA8000 aluminum XHHW-2 wire suitable for motor feeder circuits with high inrush current in factories?

Yes, it is well-suited for motor and heavy equipment feeder circuits in manufacturing plants. The AA8000 aluminum conductor has stable current-carrying capacity and good thermal cycling resistance, and the XHHW-2 insulation maintains a 90°C continuous rating, providing sufficient thermal margin for motor startup inrush currents. For frequent start-stop heavy loads, engineers should verify ampacity with NEC correction factors to ensure long-term reliable operation.

Can this 2/0 AWG aluminum XHHW-2 wire directly replace existing copper feeder wires during factory retrofits?

Direct one-to-one gauge replacement is not recommended. Since AA8000 aluminum has lower conductivity than copper, you need to first verify that the 2/0 AWG aluminum conductor meets the circuit's ampacity and voltage drop requirements. You must also replace all copper terminals with UL-listed aluminum-rated terminals and check panel breaker ratings. When sized correctly, it is a cost-effective retrofit option that lowers material and installation costs for large-scale plant rewiring projects.

What is the maximum allowable ambient temperature for this wire in high-temperature factory workshops?

The conductor temperature rating is 90°C for XHHW-2. For high-temperature areas like forging shops or heat treatment zones, you must apply ambient temperature correction factors per NEC Article 310. For example, at an ambient temperature of 40°C, the conductor ampacity needs to be derated accordingly. For persistently high-temperature zones, we recommend selecting XHHW-2 grade and verifying the corrected ampacity to avoid accelerated insulation aging and shortened service life.

How does this wire perform in factory environments with oil, dust and mild corrosive fumes?

The XLPE thermoset insulation of XHHW/XHHW-2 wire has good resistance to mineral oils, grease and mild industrial corrosives, and the AA8000 aluminum alloy conductor offers better oxidation resistance than pure aluminum. When installed inside sealed conduit or cable trays as required, it works reliably in typical workshop environments with occasional oil splashes and dust. It is not recommended for direct exposure to strong acid/alkali environments without additional protective conduit.
