Scope

This specification covers three or four compact-stranded 8000 series aluminum alloy conductors with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation plus one bare aluminum alloy bonding conductor in multi-conductor cables. Conductor assembly is wrapped and enclosed in interlocked aluminum armour with flame retardant PVC jacket.Type ACWU90 cable is conforming to CSA C22.2 No. 51 standard .cUL file No.E544860.

Application

Type ACWU90 cables are primarily intended for exposed and concealed wiring in dry or wet locations and where exposed to the weather. For use in ventilated, non-ventilated, and ladder type cable trays in wet and dry locations; direct earth burial; service entrance above or below ground.

What is the difference between jacketed and unjacketed armoured cable?

The outer jacket on jacketed aluminum armoured cable is an important construction feature when evaluating permitted wet or weather-exposed routes. Unjacketed alternatives must be checked against their own approvals and intended environments.

Does ACWU90 use a separate filler or binder layer?

Some ACWU90 cable construction designs include assembly wraps or fillers to stabilize insulated conductors beneath the armour. Layer details may vary with the certified design and should be reviewed on the official construction drawing.

Is the aluminum conductor inside ACWU90 the same as bare ground wire?

In ACWU90 insulated aluminum conductors, insulated circuit conductors and any bare bonding conductor have different functions. The electrical schedule must distinguish them explicitly, especially in three-conductor assemblies.

Does ACWU90 have a flexible rubber insulation?

Standard ACWU90 XLPE insulation uses XLPE rather than a rubber-flex cord construction. It should not be presented as continuous-flex cable for moving machinery or portable equipment.
