This UL1277 certified 6 AWG TC-ER tray cable features dual-rated THHN/THWN-2 annealed copper conductors with 90°C wet/dry temperature resistance and 600V voltage rating. Equipped with crush & impact resistant outer jacket and FT4 flame retardant property, it holds TC-ER exposed run approval under NEC 336, allowing up to 6 feet unsupported open wiring between cable trays and industrial equipment. Compact cabled structure with built-in pull tape simplifies field stripping, while oil, UV and moisture resistance fits factory automation, MCC panel and heavy-load power distribution projects for North American industrial sites.

Product Description

The PVC/Nylon/PVC (THHN/THWN-2), 600V Power, TC-ER Direct Burial Cable consist of fully annealed bare copper Class B stranded conductors, covered with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and oil and gas resistant Nylon insulation, unshielded and black PVC jacket. These cables are used in industrial power.

In wet or dry locations
Approved for Class I, Div. 2 industrial hazardous locations per NEC
Permitted for Exposed Run (ER) use in accordance with NEC for 3 or more conductors

What's the core advantage of TC-ER rating over standard TC tray cable?

Ordinary TC cables can only be fully enclosed inside trays or conduits without exposed segments, while TC-ER passes strict UL1569 mechanical tests. It permits 6 feet unprotected exposed transition from trays to machinery without extra conduits, cutting installation materials and labor costs greatly.

Why are THHN/THWN-2 dual-rated conductors adopted for this 6 AWG TC-ER cable?

THHN/THWN-2 insulation combines heat-resistant PVC and nylon barrier, supporting stable operation in both high-temperature dry workshops and damp buried/outdoor environments. It resists factory oil and chemical corrosion, and delivers a longer service life than single-layer PVC insulated wires.

What is the standard ampacity of this 6 AWG TC-ER cable and matching circuit breaker?

Per NEC Table 310.16, the 6 AWG THHN copper conductor has a base ampacity of 115A at 90°C dry locations. Considering 75℃ terminal temperature limit, usable ampacity is 100A, which matches a 100A circuit breaker; ampacity derating is required when bundling over 3 current-carrying conductors.

Can this UL1277 TC-ER cable be used for both indoor tray wiring and outdoor exposed runs?

Yes. Its UV-stabilized, moisture-proof PVC outer jacket supports indoor tray layout, outdoor overhead exposed installation and direct underground burial. You need to add mechanical protection where the cable rubs against sharp metal edges, and fix the cable with metal brackets every 6 feet for outdoor exposed sections.
