8 AWG THHN/THWN/THWN-2 wire is capable of handling up to 40 amps, depending on the installation conditions and ambient temperature.THHN (Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated) is designed for use in dry locations and has a maximum operating temperature of 75°C (167°F).THWN (Thermoplastic Heat and Water-resistant Nylon-coated) can handle wet conditions with a temperature rating of up to 75°C (167°F) in wet locations and 90°C (194°F) in dry locations. THWN-2 is an enhanced version of THWN, this wire can be used in both wet and dry locations with a maximum temperature rating of 90°C (194°F). It provides additional protection against heat, moisture, and chemicals.
