Application

THW cables are widely used in the installation of building electrical systems, especially in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Due to its moisture resistance and good insulation properties, THW cables are suitable for wiring inside buildings and can be used for power supply, lighting, electrical control systems, etc. According to UL 83 standards, THW cables can work stably in wet environments, making them ideal for wet and humid areas, especially underground cable laying and installation of wires in walls.

TW cable application

Feature

TW wire

THW wire consists of a single or multiple conductors twisted together to form a conductor. The copper conductor ensures excellent conductivity and has strong corrosion resistance. The wire is insulated with a moisture-proof, flame-retardant, and sunlight-resistant PVC (polyvinyl chloride) sheath. The moisture-proof performance of the PVC insulation layer makes this wire suitable for installation in areas where the wire may be exposed to damp or humid environments. It has excellent performance in both indoor and outdoor applications, ensuring safety, durability, and long-lasting functionality.

Certification

THW cables are UL certified and meet a range of safety and performance standards from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). UL certification means that the cable has been rigorously tested to ensure reliable performance and safety under normal use conditions. In particular, THW cables meet UL 83, a basic requirement for cables covering conductors, insulation materials, sheaths, and other aspects to ensure durability and safety of the cable in normal environments.

FAQ

Q: Can THW cables be used in high temperature environments?

A: THW cables have limited temperature resistance and are generally suitable for ambient temperatures of 90°C, whether in dry or wet environments. The outer sheath is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material, which has relatively low heat resistance, so THW cables are not suitable for use in high temperature environments, especially when the operating temperature exceeds 90°C.

Q: Can THW cables work stably under high humidity conditions?

A: THW cables have good stability under high humidity conditions and can work reliably in damp or humid environments. According to UL standards and NEC regulations, the outer sheath of THW cables is usually made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC material itself has certain moisture resistance, but it is not suitable for long-term immersion in water or extremely humid conditions. If the working environment has high humidity but there is no risk of long-term contact with water, THW cables are a suitable choice.

Q: Is the outer jacket of THW cable fireproof?

A: The outer jacket of THW cable has some fireproof performance, but its fireproof rating is not as good as some specific fireproof cables (such as FPL cable or fire protection cable). According to UL and NEC standards, the outer jacket of THW cable is usually made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which has some flame retardant properties. However, the fireproof performance of PVC is mainly to slow down the spread of fire, rather than completely prevent the occurrence of fire. The outer jacket of THW cable has some fireproof performance and can cope with general fire risks, but it may be necessary to select cables with higher fireproof standards in high fire risk environments.
