Does cable color change the electrical rating?
No. Red black solar cable colors are mainly used for polarity identification. Electrical rating is determined by the approved conductor, insulation/sheath construction, size and standard-not by whether the outer sheath is red or black. For distributors and EPC buyers, GERITEL WIRE can provide specification confirmation, project packaging and documentation support.
Does higher ambient temperature reduce cable current capacity?
Yes. Higher ambient temperature, grouping and restricted heat dissipation can require solar cable derating. The project designer should use the applicable current-carrying tables and correction factors for the actual installation. GERITEL WIRE focuses on matching the ordered construction to the applicable certificate and can provide supporting technical documents for project review.
Do I need to derate cable installed in conduit?
PV cable in conduit can have different heat dissipation from open-air cable, so current capacity and grouping corrections may apply. Conduit fill, temperature and the number of current-carrying conductors should be checked during design. Can cable temperature be higher than ambient temperature?
Yes. Conductor temperature rises above ambient because of current and solar/installation heat.
