With 400 kcmil conductors, installation engineering becomes increasingly important because finished diameter, bend space and reel size can affect the project as much as ampacity. 400 kcmil aluminum RHH cable is suited to heavy feeders in industrial plants, infrastructure facilities and large commercial electrical rooms. GERITEL WIRE supplies 400 MCM aluminum RHH wire with stranded aluminum and thermoset insulation for protected 90°C dry-location use. 400 kcmil aluminum RHH wire for switchgear can be produced with the confirmed voltage marking and organized into project-specific reel schedules. Before ordering, engineers should review conduit fill, pulling route, aluminum-rated lugs and the enclosure space available for termination.

APPLICATIONS

Type USE-2, RHH or RHW-2 cables with Aluminum Alloy 8000 Series conductors are suitable for use in conduit and raceways installed underground in wet locations, and where condensation and moisture accumulations within the conduit do not exceed 90°C. Permitted for Type USE-2 per UL-854 for applications requiring direct burial. For applications requiring Type RHH or RHW-2, conductor temperatures shall not exceed 90°C in wet or dry locations. Type USE-2 is permitted for 600 volt applications. Type RHH/RHW-2 is permitted for applications up to 1000 volts.

FEATURES

10 AWG and larger rated for Sunlight Resistance. Cables comply with UL's FT-2 (horizontal wire flame). On 250 KCMIL and larger, sequential foot markings located every foot for easy measuring. For 1 AWG through 4/0 AWG, sequential foot markings on master reels only unless otherwise specified. 1/0 AWG and larger are rated for cable tray use and comply with UL-1685-Method 1 (70,000 Btu/hr) flame test. Excellent ruggedized and mechanical protection.

How should large Aluminum RHH Cable be pulled?

For large Aluminum RHH Cable installation, plan the reel position, pulling direction, conduit fill, bend locations and pulling equipment before work begins. Use approved pulling methods and avoid exceeding allowable tension or sidewall pressure. Proper reel handling and cable lubrication, where permitted, can reduce installation stress on long feeder runs.

Can Aluminum RHH Wire be used in electrical panels?

Aluminum RHH panel wire can be used for fixed feeder and distribution connections around panelboards when the equipment accepts aluminum conductors and the cable type is permitted by the design. Terminals must be properly rated and torqued. Panel space should also be checked because aluminum conductors may require a larger size than copper for the same circuit load.

Is Aluminum RHH Cable suitable for switchgear connections?

Aluminum RHH switchgear cable can be used for protected fixed power connections where the switchgear lugs, conductor size, voltage and cable type are compatible. Large aluminum feeders can reduce installed conductor weight, but the switchgear must provide suitable aluminum-rated terminations and adequate bending space. Engineering review is recommended before ordering.

Can Aluminum RHH Wire be installed in cable tray?

Aluminum RHH Wire in cable tray should only be used when the exact product carries the tray-related approval required by the installation and the project code permits the construction. RHH alone does not automatically establish cable-tray suitability. If tray installation is planned, include that requirement in the inquiry so GERITEL WIRE can verify the appropriate cable type.
