Connection Method Of Solar Panel Extension Cable

Leave a message

When installing a solar panel extension cable, certain steps and precautions need to be followed to ensure safety and reliability.

1. Serial connection method
The serial connection method refers to sequentially connecting multiple solar panel extension cables together through MC4 connectors, and finally connecting the connecting wires of the components to the last solar panel extension lead. This connection method is suitable for scenarios where the power of the components is high and multiple components need to be connected in series. However, when using the series connection method, attention should be paid to the length of the solar extension cable and the quality of the connector to avoid affecting the transmission of voltage and current.

2. Parallel connection method
Parallel connection refers to connecting multiple solar panel extension cables onto an MC4 connector, and then connecting the connector to the component. This connection method is suitable for scenarios where the power of the components is small and multiple components need to be connected in parallel. The parallel connection method can effectively reduce the impedance of the extension cable solar panel and improve the efficiency of electrical energy output. However, when using parallel connection method, attention should be paid to the type and quantity of connectors to avoid affecting the stability of voltage and current.

The following are the installation steps for a typical solar panel extension cable:
1. Prepare tools and materials

Tools: wire stripping pliers, screwdriver, insulation tape, zip ties, insulation sleeves (if needed), multimeter (for testing circuits).
Materials: Solar panel cable extension (usually matched with 4mm solar cable, 6mm solar cable), Y-connector (if needed), insulated waterproof tape, PVC conduit (used to protect the circuit).

2. Measure and cut extension lines
Measure and cut the appropriate length of solar extension lead according to actual needs.
Ensure that the length of the trimmed solar panel extension cord is sufficient and leaves appropriate margin for future use.

3. Strip the wire
Use wire stripping pliers to remove the insulation layer at both ends of the solar panel extension cord, exposing a certain length of metal wire core. Be careful not to strip off too much insulation layer from the solar panel extension cable to avoid exposing too much metal wire core and increasing the risk of short circuit.

4. Connect the extension cable
If using an MC4 connector, insert the metal wire core of the solar powered extension cord into the corresponding port of the connector and tighten the nut to secure it. If directly connected, the metal wire cores of the MC4 to MC4 extension cable can be connected together using wire clamps or welding methods.

5. Insulation treatment
Wrap the connection with insulating tape or insulation sleeve to ensure that it is not exposed and to avoid the risk of short circuit or electric shock. If the solar powered extension cord needs to pass through a metal tube or be exposed to a humid environment, additional waterproof treatment should be carried out using insulated waterproof tape.

6. Testing and Inspection
Use a multimeter to test the on/off status of the solar panel extension cable to ensure correct connection.
