Does Shielded Cable Need To Be Grounded?

Leave a message

Shielded cable need to be grounded. ‌
The main purpose of designing the shielding layer of shielded cable is to prevent electromagnetic interference and ensure the stability and accuracy of signal transmission. Grounding is a crucial step in ensuring the effective functioning of the shielding layer. Grounding can help guide interference signals from the shielding layer into the ground, thereby reducing the impact of electromagnetic interference on signal transmission. Different types of shielded cable have different grounding methods, as follows:

Power cable shielding layer: usually grounded at both ends to reduce grounding resistance, increase fault current, and ensure more reliable operation of protective electrical systems.

Button type control cable shielding layer: It can be grounded at one end or both ends, but for construction convenience, it is usually grounded at one end on the power side.

Signal cable shielding layer: The grounding method varies depending on the type of shielding layer (single shielding and double shielding). The single shielded signal line is only grounded on the control cabinet side, while the sub shielding of the double shielded signal line is grounded on the control cabinet side, and both ends of the total shielding are grounded.

In addition, any link of the circuit needs to be grounded to help export current and prevent various leakage situations from occurring. Single ended grounding can effectively avoid the potential difference caused by simultaneous grounding of both ends, which can lead to rolling interference caused by the introduced potential. Therefore, in order to ensure the normal operation of shielded cable and the safe and stable operation of the system, grounding of shielded cables is an essential step
