How To Tell If A Cable Is Shielded Cable?

Leave a message

To determine whether a cable is shielded, the following methods can be used to distinguish:

Observing the structure of the cable: Shielded cable have an additional layer of metal braided shielding on the structure, while non shielded cables do not have this layer of shielding

Check cable identification: Shielded  cable are usually labeled with "shielded" instead of unshielded cables.

Check the usage environment of cables: Shielded cable are suitable for environments with high electromagnetic interference (EMI), while unshielded cables are suitable for general network environments.

Measure resistance: The resistance between the shielding layer of a shielded cable and the internal core wire should be close to infinity, while the resistance between the core wires of a non shielded cable should be close to zero.

By using the above method, it is possible to effectively determine whether the cable is a shielded cable. In practical applications, shielded cable are commonly used in critical applications that require reduction of electromagnetic interference, such as wireless radio cable components and airport cable components, due to their ability to reduce electromagnetic interference. Non shielded cable are more suitable for use in office cabling systems due to their lightweight, flexible, easy to install, and lower cost characteristics
