The Main Difference Between XLPE Cable And PVC Cable

Leave a message

The main difference between XLPE cable and PVC cable lies in their molecular structure and properties. ‌‌

The molecular structure is different: the molecular structure of PVC cable insulation material is linear, while the molecular structure of XLPE cable insulation material is transformed into a mesh structure through cross-linking treatment. This structural change makes XLPE cables have better heat resistance and mechanical properties, while reducing shrinkage, preventing them from melting when heated, and maintaining excellent electrical performance.

Different heat resistance: Due to changes in the molecular structure of insulation materials, the heat resistance temperature of XLPE cable has increased from 70 ℃ to 90 ℃, and can even withstand high temperatures of up to 170-250 ℃ for instantaneous short circuits. In contrast, PVC cable have lower heat resistance.

Different application fields: XLPE cable are suitable for special fields such as high voltage and high current, such as power systems and nuclear power plants, due to their excellent heat resistance and mechanical properties. PVC cable are used in some situations where high heat resistance is not required.

Different electrical performance: XLPE cable have excellent electrical performance and are suitable for power systems of various voltage levels, while PVC cables have relatively weaker electrical performance and a narrower range of applications.

In summary, XLPE cable have significantly improved their heat resistance, mechanical properties, and electrical performance through cross-linking treatment, making them more widely used in high-end fields such as high voltage and high current; PVC cable are widely used in some ordinary industrial and civilian fields due to their lower cost and moderate performance.
